Health Promoting Schools

Eating healthy food helps to keep you fit and ready to learn at school. Think about the different times that you eat each day and how you can make a healthy choice.

Packed lunches

  • If you are bringing a packed lunch to school, it is important that it is healthy.
  • Make sure your packed lunch contains a good mixture of different foods.
  • Try to include food from all the main food groups: carbohydrate (for example, bread and cereals), protein (for example, meat, fish, chicken, nuts), fruit and vegetables and milk and dairy products (for example, yoghurt, fromage frais).
  • Try not to bring sweets, crisps and fizzy drinks all the time.
  • Bring milk, water or fruit juice to drink.
  • Talk to your parents or carers about what you would like to have in your packed lunch.
  • Try to eat lots of different things for lunch – for example, try different breads, fillings and fruits: it can be boring if you bring the same things every day!
  • Think of some healthy, exciting ideas to add to your usual packed lunch and make up your own recipes to try.
