Pupils with additional support needs

Since personal and social education (PSE) places great value on the development of life skills, it is vital that pupils with additional support needs (ASN) also follow a detailed programme of study, differentiated to meet their needs and abilities, while remaining age-appropriate.

Some difficulties may arise for pupils with ASN, and methods need to be found to counter difficulties such as:

  • the life experiences pupils bring to school
  • literacy problems
  • problems in communicating personal concerns
  • delayed moral development
  • general communication and language difficulties
  • having a very poor self-image.

A reflective and detailed PSE programme of study can greatly enhance the personal and social needs of all pupils.
